Inspiral Design created original layouts and brought the work of twelve outstanding Muslim scientists into a concise design that rested on the expert research and writing of commissioned historian and Arabist Paul Lunde.
The calendar had a handcrafted quality and used several images per page. As all of the scientists predate photography, the design had the added challenge of having little visual resources to draw from. The compositions combine manuscripts with hand-drawn illustrations, photographs of surviving inventions and renderings of historic events. The calendar was printed in five colours and its front cover features a beautiful brass astrolabe reproduced using stunning gold inks.
